It is nearly impossible to imagine the inner-workings of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev head. This photo was taken this morning (April 22, 2015) as Tsarnaev sits in his cell, whilst jurors were shown this photo in aiding to the fight for capital punishment. As prosecutor, Nadine Pellegrini said, “... he is unconcerned, unrepentant, and unchanged.” His complete lack of character and comparison to human-life is what may constitute the death penalty. Not only did he and his late-brother murder many people and injure many more, they placed distraught on Boston and the entire nation. I believe he will receive capital punishment for his acts, but more so for his lack of mental fortitude and inability to interact with humans ever again. Having such an unstable person alive, albeit in prison, creates distress for the families of the victims and the residents of Boston. (Original Artifact #6)

Debate: Is It Time to Abolish the Death Penalty: Pros and ConsExcerpt from full article (_): "But proponents of the death penalty believe capital punishment serves a moral and social purpose in American society. They argue that while the administration of the penalty is not perfect, improvements can be made in the justice system to address some opponents' concerns without doing away with the punishment altogether. Some people deserve to die, they say, for committing certain types of crime." (Found Artifact #4)

Visual Analysis of Death Penalty CartoonThis cartoon, I believe, perfectly depicts the issues surrounding the death penalty today. Jurors are selective with whom they give capital punishment to. The three bags of dosage along with the particular committed offense equate the final judgement. A juror may input their political view into their decision and see what their specific party believes in. On a poverty and race level a juror may unjustifiable see a poverty-stricken African-American male and say, “the death penalty will not be the worst thing ever for this guy.” Jurors must stray from these three ideals, and simply focus on the alleged offense and the mental capacity of the suspect to stay productive in the world, most likely jail. In this artwork lies the fundamental point against the death penalty. Those against the act believe as a nation we are simply making the situation more complex. If one man kills another why should he automatically be killed and not have to “rot” in prison for his life. However, the problem with this graphic is a person murders another they are given the death penalty less than 5% of the time. For a felon to be granted capital punishment, they must commit a heinous act killing/injuring multiple people. When a felon is a true endangerment to society and they can never truly be rehabilitated in any manner the death penalty usually comes into play. (Original Artifact #4)
